Cheshire Solar Systems began a major commercial solar installation at Hawkley Trading Estate in Wigan for Questorwell Construction, a Hyde-based commercial fit-out company specialising in rejuvenating older warehouse buildings and bringing them up to a modern, rentable standard. Work started in early August with scaffolding and roof preparation, followed by setting out the array, fitting panel brackets and installing the solar panels. The team progressed at around 50kW of panel capacity every two days, keeping the project moving efficiently across the large industrial roof space.

Alongside the roof installation, Cheshire Solar Systems installed the inverters and prepared the containment needed to bring the solar strings down from the roof, helping each stage of the project run smoothly together. The completed system comprises 600 solar panels connected to three Fronius three-phase inverters. A G99 export limitation system was also incorporated to control surplus electricity returned to the grid, ensuring the installation operates within the strict export limit set by the Distribution Network Operator (DNO).

The goal of the project was to reduce the site’s carbon footprint and lower the amount of electricity drawn from the grid. By installing a large-scale solar PV system across the warehouse roof, Questorwell Construction can generate more of its own electricity on site, reduce energy costs and improve the environmental performance of the property, while targeting an estimated three-year return on investment.
