Solar panels still generate electricity even when the weather isn’t perfect. On rainy or overcast days, you’ll continue to produce power, although at a reduced level compared to bright, sunny conditions. Interestingly, solar panels can also perform very well on cold but sunny days.

On particularly dark, heavily overcast days, generation will be lower, but your system will still contribute where possible.

Solar panels are built to last, with most systems offering a lifespan of 25–30 years or more. The panels we install typically come with market-leading warranties of around 25 years, with some manufacturers offering up to 30 years for added peace of mind.

The exact warranty and lifespan can vary depending on the specific products and manufacturer chosen. Full technical details for your system will always be included in your proposal, so you can clearly see exactly what you’re getting before making a decision.

In most cases, you do not need to replace your roof before installing solar panels, provided it is in good condition. However, if your roof is nearing the end of its lifespan, it can sometimes be a sensible time to consider replacement before installation.

As a general guide, many slate roofs last around 50 years, but this will depend on the materials and condition of your specific roof.

If you are planning a new roof, this is also a great opportunity to consider an in-roof solar system. We can work alongside your roofer to ensure everything is prepared correctly for a smooth installation.

Please note, we are unable to remove and reinstall solar systems installed by other companies due to warranty and liability reasons. However, if your system was installed by us and you require a re-roof, we can safely remove and reinstall your system and provide a tailored quote for the work.

Solar batteries store any excess energy your panels generate during the day so you can use it later in the evening when your household demand is typically higher.

They can also be charged using cheaper off-peak electricity tariffs, allowing you to store low-cost energy and use it during peak times when rates are higher. This helps you maximise savings and reduce reliance on the grid.

The process usually begins with our roofing team installing the mounting rails and solar panels. Once this stage is complete, our electrical engineers carry out the wiring, connect the system, and complete the final commissioning to get everything up and running safely and efficiently.

The cost of a solar panel system can vary depending on the size of the installation and the components chosen. As a general guide, a standard solar-only system (without battery storage) typically starts from around £5,995 installed.

While there are cheaper options available on the market, it’s important to consider more than just the upfront price. Panel performance, efficiency, aesthetics, warranty coverage, and the level of aftercare and ongoing support all play a key role in the long-term value of your system.

Most properties in the UK are suitable for solar panel installation. The amount of energy your system generates will depend on the level of sunlight your roof receives throughout the day and year.

South-facing roofs typically achieve the highest output, but east and west-facing roofs can still perform very well and deliver strong long-term savings.
